£10 per kilo (one kilo = 50 favours each containing five almonds)

Chocolate dragees available in pink, white, ivory, lilac, etc. (£15 per kilo)

Large red hearts (£18 per kilo), silver hearts and gold hearts (£20 per kilo)

Why we use sugar-coated almonds

The association of almonds with love goes back to Greek legend when a young man called Demophon was prevented from seeing his lover Phyllis. Demophon was sent for by his ill father and could not return immediately to Phyllis. Sadly Phyllis interpreted Demophon’s absence as a sign that he was no longer interested in her and she hung herself. The Gods touched by her love transformed her into an almond tree. When Demophon returned and discovered that Phyliss had sacrificed her life, he was so struck with grief that he too offered a sacrifice to the almond tree and then in response the tree blossomed. Impetuous youth and undying love were thus symbolised by the almond.
